Digital data handling resulting in better efficiency and ergonomics, an improved flow of information, and smoother access to the data per-operatively or pre-operatively really can make a difference in the everyday work in the operating room.
This said, for us it is important to have a transparent and easy to reconfigure setup offering real added value, and no 'digital toys'. Moreover, we don't want to use extended space in an operating room, or want to expose the surgeons and their staff to complex interfaces... Therefore we design configurable and reconfigurable systems which really work.
What do we offer within the Nucleus Digital Operating Room platform?
1. 'video switching and routing' : any video source can be routed to any video display in the operating room without loss of quality or delay.
2. 'video and audio broadcasting' : intranet and internet video and audio transmission. This way as a surgeon you can more easily access a second opinion during surgery, and as a supervisor you can follow up remotely what is going on. Also for education, having the possibility to display to a remote audience, is making a large difference.
3. 'video and audio acquisition, annotation and compression' store any data source, and add 'meta-data' which allows you to retrieve the data, or to find back specific points within data. Establish interrelationships between different data sources.
4. 'storage & retrieval of multimedia data, and data life cycle maintenance' : it is not because you have the data, that you will ever find it back. Numerous hospitals have rooms with betacam cassettes... Doing the same by dumping everything on an enormous, ever growing file server will simply not solve the problem. Also, it is useless to record everything, and store it forever... We think we have solid answers to this problem.
Of course, we do work together with partners which can provide other necessary equipment for the operating room. A tight integration with existing hospital information systems, through standard or dedicated interfaces is no problem. As an engineering office, we have the flexibility to go relatively far in this matter...

Any video source can be routed to any display, can be recorded in parallel and transmitted via a secure broadcast over the intra- or internet. All data is stored in an archiving and retrieval system.
